THE NIGHT HOUSE Trailer Doubles the Terror of a Haunted Home

The horror movie The Night House premiered earlier this year at virtual Sundance. Our Kyle Anderson called the Searchlight Pictures‘ film “one of the freshest and most upsetting takes on a haunted house” stories he has seen in awhile. His high praise is why it’s one of our most anticipated horror movies of 2021. Now you can see why. The film’s first nightmarish trailer combines the terror of a haunted home with the eerie quiet of remote living. But there’s something even scarier than living alone with a ghost. Like learning there might be another version of you entirely living nearby.

“Reeling from the unexpected death of her husband, Beth is left alone in the lakeside home he built for her. She tries as best she can to keep it together—but then nightmares come. Disturbing visions of a presence in the house calling to her, beckoning her with a ghostly allure. Against the advice of her friends, she begins digging into her husband’s belongings, yearning for answers. What she finds are secrets both strange and disturbing—a mystery she’s determined to unravel.”

Rebecca Hall (The Departed, The Awakening) stars in this latest twist on a classic haunted house tale. Or, in this case, a double haunted house tale. One made all the creepier by the film’s setting. A lake home can be incredibly peaceful during the day, especially when filled with friends and family. But it can be rather unsettling at night.

Every tree branch blowing in the wind can sound like an omen of doom. And that’s without bloody footprints following you around. Or finding your doppelgänger living in an inverted copy of your own house.

We were already looking forward to this film, but after this trailer, we can’t wait. Even if we’re definitely more terrified now.

The Night House also stars Sarah Goldberg (Barry), Vondie Curtis Hall (Die Hard 2), Evan Jonigkeit (Togetherish), and Stacy Martin (Vox Lux). David Bruckner (Creepshow) directs a script from Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. It comes to theaters this summer, July 17.
