All-Star Cast Fills Out Western THE HARDER THEY FALL Trailer

The past decade has given way to countless discussions about the death of the movie star. Even if you subscribe to this ideology, it’s tough to deny the attraction of a rich ensemble cast. Whether or not you’re a fan of Westerns, you may find yourself drawn to Netflix’s new foray into the genre; for, per the film’s first trailer below, it boasts quite an attractive lineup of stars.

Look, I’m not greedy. I’d feel satisfied with Regina King and LaKeith Stanfield breaking Idris Elba out of imprisonment on a moving train. But then the trailer moves onto Jonathan Majors rallying his own team to take down the aforesaid trio. Granted, we get much quicker glimpses of Majors, Zazie Beetz, and the incomparable Delroy Lindo. But for my money, it’s enough to sell a movie on.

Regina King and LaKeith Stanfield dress in Old West garb as they break Idris Elba in old-fashioned prison stripes out of jail on a train.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis courtesy of Netflix’s press release:

When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) is being released from prison he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge. Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally.  Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose.

Jonathan Majors, Delroy Lindo, and R.J. Cyler wear Old West garb in a nighttime small town setting.

Star power aside, the trailer also shows off rhythmic action and a sharp-looking Old West small town setting. We’re not quite sure just yet of the nature of the standoff between Nat Love and Rufus Buck. But whatever the matter, that one dusty street leading up to the church seems like the perfect arena for it.

The Harder They Fall is directed by filmmaker and music artist Jeymes Samuel, a.k.a. The Bullitts. He co-wrote the script with Boaz Yakin, perhaps best known for helming Remember the Titans. The film will hit Netflix on November 3, 2021 and select theaters on October 22, 2021.
