Netflix is adding a hot show to its lineup on October 1. It’s based on Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy acts. And it will have A LOT of episodes ready for your viewing pleasure! Like over one hundred. Are you ready for the groundbreaking title? The show is called…Seinfeld. Does that sound familiar? Because it is. This is not a reboot, remake, or remix of the famous original series, which ran from the late ‘80s through 1998. It is the OG series itself in all its nine-season glory. But Netflix is hilariously promoting it as a brand-new (to them) thing in a teaser.
The clip calls Seinfeld its “hottest new show” and hypes up its 180 episodes-long, breathtaking “premiere” as we get familiar shots. In fact, the entire clip is framed perfectly as though this were a new venture. Too bad the hair, clothes, and pretty much everything screams of the ‘90s. The streaming service promises heartwarming love stories and lifelong friendships. This isn’t a lie because, well, we already know what’s gonna happen here. But we want to see it again (and again) anyway.
In a hilarious press release, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos says Netflix is the perfect place for Seinfeld to find its fanbase. Because it clearly doesn’t have one already. We’re wishing it luck on that.
“This is the first time we’ve taken a risk of this nature, going all-in on 9 seasons at the jump,” said Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos. “But Jerry has created something special with this sitcom that nobody has ever done. I truly think he and Mr. David have enormous futures ahead of them, and I’m thrilled Netflix could be the home for them to grow their fanbases.”

Seinfeld himself also gave a rousing statement, thanking Netflix for this wonderful opportunity. This one is right from the heart.
“Larry and I are enormously grateful to Netflix for taking this chance on us. It takes a lot of guts to trust two schmucks who literally had zero experience in television when we made this thing,” said Seinfeld. “We really got carried away, I guess. I didn’t realize we made so many of them. Hope to recoup god knows how many millions it must have taken to do. But worth all the work if people like it. Crazy project.”
It’s really nice to see new, completely not famous guys get a chance. We hope this Seinfeld thing works out for them. We know we’re at the edge of our seats waiting to see if it succeeds.
