Although Disney+ Day lacked any kind of meaningful Star Wars news, Deadline is now reporting on an exciting development for the upcoming Ahsoka series. In a recent report, the outlet revealed that a new lead has been cast for the show. Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Society) will reportedly play opposite Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka. She will appear in the role of Sabine Wren in Ahsoka. Nerdist reached out to Lucasfilm for confirmation but didn’t hear back as of time of publishing.
A familiar name to avid Star Wars fans, Sabine Wren hails from the Star Wars Rebels animated series. There, Tiya Sircar (The Good Place) voiced the character. A Mandalorian, Sabine Wren grew over the course of the animated series. As part of the Ghost crew under Hera Syndulla, Wren helped the burgeoning Rebel Alliance before formally joining the organization. For a brief time, she even laid claim to the legendary Darksaber—a weapon we’ve seen in The Mandalorian.
Originally Wren was a cadet at the Imperial Academy of Mandalore. But she abandoned that life and all of the above adventures ensued. Last we saw her in Star Wars Rebels, she had left Lothal with her friend Ahsoka Tano to search for Ezra Bridger. Sabine and Ezra, both part of the Ghost crew, had a close bond. But Ezra went missing during a battle with the Empire on his home planet of Lothal. Specifically, we last saw him leaping through hyperspace into parts unknown with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka noted she was looking for Thrawn when she appeared in The Mandalorian. It seems like Ahsoka may serve as a live-action season five for Rebels. This could be an exciting treat for fans of the show.
We already know that Hayden Christensen will be returning in Ahsoka as Anakin Skywalker. Sabine Wren does not have any significant history with Anakin, so it will be interesting to see how these worlds collide. Could we see other significant players from Rebels joining into the fray? Anything remains possible at this point. But regardless, we look forward to seeing how all these pieces fit together. When it comes to Star Wars, we can always count on an epic story.
