“We all have monsters within us. It’s up to us to control it.” Okay, sure. But that’s a lot easier for some people than others. For most of us, our inner monster is not a living vampire. It’s not as easy to control your worst impulses when your body needs human blood to live. But that’s what Jared Leto will face as the star of Sony’s latest Spider-Man villain standalone film. And the final trailer for Morbius shows it won’t be easy for Michael to keep his inner vampire under control. Especially if he accepts he’s now a villain.
Sony‘s last trailer for Morbius is big on baddies and vampire attacks. Michael Keaton’s Vulture is back. He’s seen here pushing Michael Morbius to embrace his new position in life. And this promo also features our best look yet at what we can expect from Matt Smith. Like Morbius, his character also has a debilitating condition. But unlike Morbius, Smith’s character seems ready to unleash his rage on everyone.
Will having another villain around keep Morbius firmly in the antihero camp? That’s where Sony’s Venom now resides. Or will Morbius give in to his most dangerous tendencies and embrace his new role? The film’s official synopsis doesn’t offer any more clues than this trailer. From Sony:
One of the most compelling and conflicted characters in Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?
Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the film also stars Jared Leto, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Hopefully, all of them will follow Madrigal’s lead and keep holy water with them. It’s better to be safe than sorry. You never know when someone’s inner monster will break free. And on rare occasions that monster turns out to be a living vampire.
Morbius swoops into theaters on April 1. (No fooling.)
