Soon Netflix will be hangin’ out down the street. However, the streaming site won’t be doing the same old thing. At least not entirely. The spinoff series That ’90s Show will feature a new generation of teens having fun during a different decade. But the sitcom’s newly released first image shows not everything is different about Wisconsin. Red and Kitty are now proud grandparents. And since the rest of original cast was more than just alright, Netflix is bringing them back, too. Most of the stars from That ’70s Show will make guest appearances during the sequel show’s debut season.
Netflix shared the first official image from a spinoff decades in the making. It shows Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp at their kitchen table looking relazed. They’re clearly enjoying retirement and having their own kids out of the house. (Especially Red, we’re sure.) But in season one they’ll be responsible for taking care of a youngster once again. Here’s the official synopsis from the streaming site:
Hello, Wisconsin! It’s 1995 and Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, is visiting her grandparents for the summer, where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red. Sex, drugs and rock ’n roll never dies, it just changes clothes.
This new image also came with big news. Original stars Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderrama will also reprise their That ’70s Show roles with guest spots on the series. Their returns are not exactly a surprise. Neither is the exclusion of Danny Masterson, currently facing trial for rape allegations.
Additionally, it has now been confirmed that Tommy Chong will return in his role as Leo. He told The Dark Mark Show, (new we saw via Variety) “They gave me a call and I did my part…They never gave me any instructions, so I don’t know if I’m supposed to be talking about it or not. I really don’t give a s*** to tell you the truth. I’ve got a big mouth. That’s what I’m known for…I’m back as Leo.”
We also know at least one star is thrilled to be getting back into their Wisconsin groove.
The cast’s series regulars also include Ashley Aufderheide, Callie Haverda, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos. The ten episode first season still does not have an official release date, but that’s more than alright. Just gives us more time to get ready for That ’90s Show by listening to Nirvana and finding our old pog collection.
