The move from physical media to a more streaming-based entertainment world has left us suffering some losses. Prominent among those is the decline in the special features that used to be available for us to watch once a movie left theaters and came into our hands. Of course, some movies still offer those glorious extras, but movies that are born and live only on streaming platforms rarely do. This is why it’s so exciting that Rian Johnson has delivered us a director’s commentary for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
Johnson had noted early on that he wanted to provide a director’s commentary for the movie, noting, “I hope we’ll have a physical disc, but at the very least I also, when it releases on Netflix – even if it’s just me recording my own thing – I’m gonna figure out some way to get that out there.” There’s no physical disc yet, but we finally have the Glass Onion commentary to enjoy.
Of course, in true Netflix fashion, the Glass Onion commentary doesn’t function the way we might expect. Instead of an overlayed track, you can find Johnson’s thoughts on Netflix’s “Watching With…” podcast. But happily, the episode counts us down on when to hit play so you can sync the Glass Onion discussion with the movie itself.
3, 2, 1… It’s time to dive back into the world of Glass Onion, now with a knowledgeable guide.
