We just met the characters of Elemental in a trailer for the upcoming Pixar film. And of course it will arrive in theaters with the traditional Pixar short that airs before the animation studio’s movies. This one is Carl’s Date. Starring Carl Fredricksen from Up, the short features Carl working up to going out on the town. He gets guidance from none other than Dug. The trailer promises extreme cuteness.
We already feel teary-eyed over this concept. Especially when you consider that Ed Asner recorded the dialogue for the short not long before he passed. He was able to reprise Up‘s grumpy-yet-soft Carl one last time. The synopsis for the short reads as follows:
…this all-new short, “Carl’s Date,” finds Carl reluctantly agreeing to go on a date with a lady friend—but admittedly with no idea how dating works these days. Ever the helpful friend, Dug steps in to calm Carl’s pre-date jitters and offer some tried-and-true tips for making friends—if you’re a dog.
Yeah, we have no doubt Dug has plenty of excellent advice.
Written and directed by Bob Peterson and produced by Kim Collins, Carl’s Date will premiere with Elemental in theaters on June 16.
