There are countless movies, documentaries, and more about the life of Elvis Presley. He’s the type of public figure who loomed much larger after his death. Conspiracy theories continue to swirl around him, as does commentary about his personal and professional life. In the mix of all of it is Priscilla Presley, who was famously (and controversially) married to Elvis in the late 1960s through the early 1970s. Their story is usually told from an omniscient perspective or from Elvis’ POV; however, A24’s upcoming film aims to change that. The first trailer for Priscilla gives us a glimpse into her world and complex relationship with the King.
The film is based on Priscilla Presley’s bestselling book Elvis and Me (1985). For those unfamiliar with the relationship, here’s a quick synopsis of Priscilla to go along with the trailer.
When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend. Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.
Priscilla stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi as Priscilla and Elvis, respectively, with Sofia Coppola writing and directing. The trailer has fans wondering when Priscilla will release, but for now, we only know that it is coming sometime in October.
