Hugh James is the Partner of Digital Experience for TPXimpact, a purpose-driven digital transformation company helping organizations build a better future through human-centered design and technology solutions. Their clients include nonprofits, public sector, charities, government entities, healthcare, and higher ed.
In this episode of Velocitize Talks, Hugh James shares his insights on sustainable growth in the digital space and making a positive impact.
(Limited) Resources
An estimated 5% of global emissions come from information and computer technologies (ICT) and over the next decade that number could reach as high as 20%. Data centers and servers alone account for approximately 1% of all carbon emissions in the world due to the massive amounts of electricity used.
However, there are a number of ways that businesses can help secure a more sustainable internet, from ensuring that your website and assets are constantly optimized to choosing an eco-friendly hosting platform.
James recommends exploring these issues further at the Dutch nonprofit Green Web Foundation, an organization working towards a fossil-free internet by 2030.
Purpose-Driven Brands & Emerging Technologies
The majority of consumers say they are more loyal to purpose-driven brands than traditional brands, and favor businesses that effectively communicate their values. TPXimpact works with a number of purpose-driven and nonprofit organizations including the Buckinghamshire Council’s Childrens Services Department.
The department supports residents and special guardians going through foster care and adoption services but lacked the necessary digital tools to facilitate the application process.
TPXimpact created the digital tools based on behavioral design principles with the help of cutting-edge web design, including personalized action plans for prospective adopters and a comprehensive support guide for guardians.
“Our work can deliver such significant change for the organizations that we work with and the people that they can support and the causes that they can influence, and the fact that we are genuinely making people’s lives better,” James says.
