A few years ago, there were many rumblings about a Star Trek movie with Quentin Tarantino as its director. We at Nerdist tried to imagine how this film would play out considering it is rather far from Tarantino’s typical wheelhouse. We came up with a few ideas but now it seems that none of that matters anymore. During a podcast interview with Bill Maher, Quentin Tarantino confirmed that his Star Trek movie will never, ever happen. Oh well. (Thanks to Comicbook.com for bringing this to our attention.)
“It’s never going to happen,” said Tarantino. “There’s been so much misinformation about what it was going to be—nothing but misinformation. I live in a special zone and part of my zone is because I’m not on Instagram and Facebook, I’m not creating this constant dialogue with the world with what’s going on with my life.”
Tarantino continued and basically said that it’s easy for a reporter to take some news/rumor and run with it because he’s minding his own business off the internet. It was something he had interest in at one point but that’s simply not the case anymore. Honestly, that’s awesome for him. A Quentin Tarantino Star Trek is not happening but that doesn’t mean we don’t have plenty to look forward to. Star Trek: Section 31 is coming to Paramount+ in 2025 and it looks awesome. And there’s still yet another Star Trek film coming to continue the film series starring Chris Pine as a young Captain Kirk.
