Andor season two has a nearly impossible task. It has to follow one of the greatest seasons of television ever made. It also has to do that while we know exactly how and when it is going to end. The show will conclude with the start of Rogue One, which will also mark the end of Cassian Andor’s story. Will the Disney+ series possibly be able to deliver a second and final year as good as its first under those conditions? We wouldn’t have bet against it before, but we definitely won’t after seeing the new trailer for Andor season two. Diego Luna’s rebel isn’t just out to fight an evil Empire. He’s going to do everything he can to win.
If you find yourself ready to run through a brick wall and punch a fascist after seeing this Andor trailer, that’s exactly how you should feel. This very non Star Wars-esque trailer, set to Steve Earle’s “The Revolution Starts Now,” feels more like a call to action than a call to watch a TV show. It also features all of the major players from the show’s first season along with familiar faces from Rogue One.
What exactly can we expect when the new season premieres at Disney+ on April 22? Lucasfilm provided some new insight with the trailer’s release:
Season 2 will see the characters and their relationships intensify as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound.
Show creator Tony Gilroy also shared some insight about the final season and what we can expect from it. “One of the great thrills of making Andor is the scale of the story and the number of characters we’re able to meet — ordinary people, Imperial overlords, passionate revolutionaries,” he said in a statement. “They are real people making epic decisions, all of them staring down questions with terrifying consequences. Cassian’s journey is the soul and spine of our story, but it’s the choir that makes the show. I’m so excited for audiences to see where we go in Season 2.”

Andor stars Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Forest Whitaker, and Elizabeth Dulau. Rogue One‘s Alan Tudyk and Ben Mendelsohn will join season two. Season two will feature 12 episodes total and premiere on April 22. Three episode arcs, each covering one year, will bring the to the start of Rogue One.
