The Feed the Swarm Magic Card Honors a Buzzy 1970s Marvel Comics Villain

FOUR New Cards From MAGIC: THE GATHERING X MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN (Exclusive)_2
Wizards of the Coast

This Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man card is a reprint of a classic card that first appeared in the Zendikar Rising set back in 2020. The imagery adapts the cover of Spectacular Spider-Man #36 (1979), with artwork by Ed Hannigan and Pablo Marcos. It’s all about showcasing the underappreciated (and weird) Spidey villain Swarm, who, as his name suggests, is a villain made of thousands of bees. Swarm originated as a villain for Marvel’s Champions team before moving on to becoming an adversary for Peter Parker. And now, you’ll have Swarm in your hands to battle it out on a tabletop.

The Silkguard Magic Card Spotlights the Heroic Silk a.k.a. Cindy Moon

The Magic: The Gathering Silkgaurd card, featuring Cindy Moon/Silk.
Wizards of the Coast

Peter Parker isn’t the only person who got bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager at Midtown High School. His classmate, Cindy Moon, did as well! She gained similar powers and later became the heroine Silk. Cindy starred in her own Marvel series and remains a big part of the comic Spider-Verse today. The original Silk art in this Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man card is by artist Dave Johnson. It replaces a giant silkworm creature with Cindy, and is an adaptation of another reprint of a card from 2022’s Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty.

Savage Beating Magic Card Shows a Battle Royale Between Spider-Man and Venom

New Magic: The Gathering card features Todd McFarlane art of Venom beating up Spider-Man.
Wizards of the Coast

Before he was an antihero starring in his own franchise, Venom was one of Spider-Man’s deadliest foes. Future Spawn creator Todd McFarlane made the character wildly popular, and he drew this card’s cover art, which is from Amazing Spider-Man #316. It features the alien symbiote and Eddie Brock giving Spider-Man a, well, savage beating. This is a reprint of a Magic: The Gathering card from 2004’s Darksteel. The Entwine mechanic, which lets you utilize both card effects, feels perfectly suited to the character of Venom, a human controlled by an alien parasite.

Tangle Magic Card Shows Spider-Man in His Most Modern Marvel Comics Incarnation

Wizards of the Coast

This Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man card features some very recent Spider-Man art from the comics. It showcases the variant cover art from 2022’s Amazing Spider-Man #6 by Humberto Ramos. That was actually the 900th overall issue of Amazing Spider-Man. This card first appeared in 2000’s Invasion, and it’s perfect for Spider-Man’s webbing because its effect prevents combat damage. It also prevents the creature from attacking next turn, as if caught in his web. What’s more Spider-Man than that?
