Charles Dickens’ famous A Tale of Two Cities novel will be a live-action miniseries soon, with Kit Harington as its leading man. According to Deadline, MGM+ and BBC picked up this adaptation, which will have four parts and air sometime next year.

In it, Harington will portray Sydney Carton, a smart but erratic lawyer enlisted by Lucie Manette (Mirren Mack) to investigate whether her father is actually alive or not. Twenty years after her father’s supposed death, a messenger named Charles Darnay (François Civil) reveals that he could be alive and is subsequently jailed and charged with treason. Carton hopes to free Darnay so the truth can come to the light.
Daniel West is the creator of the Kit Harington led A Tale of Two Cities series. He came together with Harington to release the following statement: “We could not be more thrilled to be working with [Federation’s] Polly, Sarah, Leo and the team at Federation to bring Dickens’ revolutionary epic to the screen. A Tale of Two Cities is the original historical blockbuster – a heartbreaking romance and a brutal revenge mystery, all set against the iconic backdrop of the French Revolution. Our adaptation will be a twisting period thriller; one with a contemporary, volatile love triangle at its heart.”
This sounds like a promising swing at a classic tale, indeed.
