John Carpenter Executive Producing New Horror Anthology Series

Aside from perhaps Stephen King, few other creators have earned the title “Modern Master of Horror” like John Carpenter. And the 77-year-old writer/director still has some scares left in him. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carpenter is executive producing a new supernatural horror anthology series for Elevation Pictures, John Carpenter Presents. The first season of the series takes place in the remote wilderness of Alaska. It will focus on “A diverse group of characters facing a chilling mix of supernatural and existential terror.” The anthology series will explore “the hidden fears and social anxieties of our time.” Well, “our time” sure has plenty of those, doesn’t it?

Michael Amo (PureThe Listener) and Will Pascoe (Orphan Black) will be the showrunners on John Carpenter Presents. The Canadian anthology series will utilize both Carpenter’s visual style and musical sensibility. After all, Carpenter wrote the scores and soundtracks for almost all of his films, like Halloween and The Thing. So, Carpenter didn’t just create Michael Myers, he came up with the music we now associate with the character. From the sound of things, although this is going to be an anthology series, each season will contain one story, American Horror Story style. So, it’s not an episodic anthology like The Twilight Zone.

In a statement, Christina Piovesan of Elevation Pictures said, “We’re thrilled to launch into the television space with the master of horror, John Carpenter. Will and Michael bring deep experience in writing and showrunning, and we can’t be more excited for this creative team to bring this series to audiences.” So, just where will this series land stateside? That remains a mystery. But with the pedigree of a horror icon like John Carpenter involved in such a big way? Then there’s no way John Carpenter Presents doesn’t end up on one of the major streamers.
