Leslie Odom, Jr. is absolutely legendary. The Tony and Emmy Award-winning thespian, known for his role as Aaron Burr (sir) in Hamilton, has given us some powerful performances on the screen and stage. But this new role is certainly not something we expected from him at all. Odom will star in a horror film that tells the story of Sammy Davis, Jr. and his connection to the Church of Satan. In case you’re wondering if it is some weird parody, it is not.
According to Deadline, this Leslie Odom, Jr. horror film is adapted from an August 2024 Rolling Stone piece titled “Dance With the Devil” by Alex Bhattacharji. We can safely assume that Odom will play Sammy. Here’s a very brief synopsis about this intriguing flick:
“How a TV pilot called Poor Devil begat a friendship between the performer, Sammy Davis Jr., and Anton Szandor LaVey, founder and high priest of the Church of Satan.”
Writer Bhattacharji describes the article that inspired this film as “a sensitive story about a profoundly alienated Davis and his search for acceptance. It’s a rollicking ride that touches on complex, timely issues: racial and sexual identity, politics, religion, pop culture, and the counter-culture.”
One thing is for sure: Leslie Odom, Jr. is going to kill it in this role. Davis is a straight up legend, one who likely inspired Odom to become an entertainer. There isn’t a release date nor more casting information for this Odom horror movie at this time.
