Halloween aficionados, your time is nigh. October approaches. With the nonsensical way time moves these days, it will basically arrive tomorrow. You can elevate your status from Halloween fan to ruler of the spooky holiday with a new contest from Spirit Halloween (via Bloody Disgusting). The costumer’s stores pop up around the US as autumn arrives, and this year they want to make the season extra special with their first-ever Chief Spirit Officer. It’s possibly the ultimate job for those who love Halloween.
And yes, it is a job that you get by winning a contest. Kind of. Spirit Halloween is accepting applications for this consulting role for the 2021 season. The job description on Monster states Spirit is looking for a “diehard Halloween enthusiast” with an eye for engaging content and “a lively on-camera presence, in an undead kind of way.” That’s quite specific. The Chief Spirit Officer will serve as the company’s go-to Halloween expert for the season. Additionally, the person in the role will host a social media series for the brand. The series will share the latest Halloween news, look at trends for 2021 costumes, and offer behind-the-scenes tips and tricks to Spirt Halloween’s followers.

The compensation package isn’t traditional with a salary and the usual perks. Instead whoever they choose gets $10,000 cash, free costumes for a decade, and a VIP shopping experience at their local Spirit Halloween (valued at $500). Before you apply and accept this role, you should definitely consider the time commitment and if this compensation is worth it.
Spirit Halloween assembled a panel to review applicants for this position. That group includes Spirit Halloween executives, songwriter Nick Lutsko, and Lance Bass. The latter has apparently proclaimed himself the King of Halloween. They’ll judge applicants on several things, including “their ability to embody an unbridled passion for Halloween, creativity.”
You have until August 29 to apply. Get all the details here.
