The James Bond franchise is heading into uncharted territory. Amazon Studios now owns the franchise and there’s a movie with Dune’s Denis Villeneuve signed on to direct. The biggest question right now for many fans of the long-running franchise is about who will be the next Bond. That person will have to look really good in an expensive suit, tackle some wild stunts and hand-to-hand combat, drive a sleek and sexy car, and have some arm candy to woo. Doesn’t sound like a bad gig, right? Well, at least one former Bond actor says he’d return for a Villeneuve film and it is surprisingly Pierce Brosnan.
He talked about this possibility during an interview with Radio Times. Brosnan, who played Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002. While his movies aren’t typically ranked among the best in the franchise, his smooth persona really captured a lot of fans’ hearts. Brosnan mused about the idea of an older James Bond, which would be entertaining, to say the least.

“I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve I would look at it in a heartbeat,” Brosnan said. “Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?”
We assume he’s mostly joking around in this statement, but it’s not impossible for Pierce Brosnan to be in a new Bond film. Perhaps he can make a cameo in some meaningful way or even do some kind of voiceover. But it doesn’t seem likely that we will get a senior citizen James Bond because that just doesn’t fit the established canon of the character.
Honestly, it seems more likely that Amazon would go left field in a different way and cast a woman in the role. It would be a really big reimagining of the character. We seem to be getting closer to an announcement soon, which Brosnan said he’s ready to hear as well. Let’s see what happens.
