All Hail the HCU: Hasbro’s Bazillion Movies and TV Shows in Development

It’s no secret that the Barbie movie is great. Sublime, even. Based on the beloved and ubiquitous doll, Barbie sparked a massive revival of toys and games being adapted into movies. Hot off the film’s success, Mattel is lining up more than a dozen projects to follow (with another 45 waiting in the wings). We’ve kindly dubbed it the Mattel Cinematic Universe. The MCU (patent pending), if you will. Given the outstanding reception of Barbie, it’s not surprising that rival toy companies would want in on the nostalgia-filled action. Hasbro tosses its hat in the ring with an equally harrowing list of movie and television series adaptations, ranging from Monopoly to a horror-comedy retelling of Furby. Step aside, Mattel. Make room for the HCU.

You thought the competition between the MCU and DCU was tough? You haven’t seen anything yet. Big-screen projects from Hasbro are nothing new. Hasbro Entertainment is responsible for massive franchises such as Transformers and G.I. Joe, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and others. Now, an entirely new cinematic franchise looms over the horizon, giving Mattel something to compete with.

Hasbro Announces 45-50 Projects in Development

Though it may seem absurd, the number above is not a typo. Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks spoke in October about the massive expansion. We don’t have a comprehensive list of every project, as Hasbro tends to avoid announcing “development deals.” That’s probably for the better, because otherwise this would be one gargantuan article. While many projects have yet to hit the ground, a decent handful are moving forward into production. From a live-action Monopoly movie to a curious horror-comedy flick about Furby, here are 16 adaptations Hasbro has in the hopper.

Monopoly

We all know Monopoly, the game responsible for destroying friendships and lasting for excruciating hours on end. And I’m not really exaggerating. Hasbro has not one, but two Monopoly adaptations in the works. One is a live-action picture in collaboration with Lionsgate, and the other is a reality competition series with Netflix.

The Monopoly movie is described as a heist comedy based on the property-trading board game. The movie is in development with Lionsgate and Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap.

“As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities. We are thrilled to have the unique vision of LuckyChap and Lionsgate alongside us to bring this historic piece of popular culture to the big screen,” said Zev Foreman, Hasbro Entertainment’s head of film. No further details have been revealed, and the film is currently in the scripting phase.

As for Monopoly’s deal with Netflix, an unscripted reality competition series is in the works. The show will be a “large-scale social-experiment contest,” similar to that of The Traitors. Players will form alliances and betray competitors in a cutthroat race to own it all. So, essentially just regular Monopoly. But with cameras. In addition, Netflix is working on a similar unscripted series for Clue.

The Game of Life

There are plenty of things that seem strange as a movie concept. The Game of Life is one of those things. We honestly have no idea how Hasbro is planning to adapt the classic life-simulator board game into a live-action movie, but we’re intrigued.

Sean Anders is directing and producing the film for Hasbro, Amazon MGM Studios, and Chernin Entertainment. The script comes from Allan Loeb. Plot details for the film are being kept under wraps for now, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Clue

As is the case with Monopoly, Hasbro is looking at two upcoming projects for the classic game of who-dunnit. Both a live-action film and an unscripted reality television series for Clue are in the works. Ryan Reynolds will produce the movie under his Maximum Effort banner, while Netflix tucks the unscripted series under its wing.

Clue is a popular game night favorite. Was it Professor Plum in the study with the candlestick? Maybe Miss Scarlet in the lounge with the lead pipe? Hasbro Entertainment teams with Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Maximum Effort to produce a live-action remake of the iconic game. Sony Pictures will distribute the film.

Meanwhile, Netflix swipes Clue for a reality competition series that drops contestants into a real-life game of deduction and deception. Players must outwit opponents to correctly identify three big questions: whowhere, and with what?

My Little Pony

Hasbro Studios

The first-ever My Little Pony live-action feature is headed to screens, courtesy of Hasbro Entertainment and Amazon MGM Pictures. My Little Pony began as a toy line of colorful ponies, each bearing a unique cutie mark that represents who they are. We’ve seen several iterations of the adorable ponies over the years, including the popular animated series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which ran from 2010 to 2019.

The film will be a live-action/CGI hybrid. Little else is known so far, but we do hope to see some of our familiar favorites such as Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy return.

Magic: The Gathering

Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro are gearing up to create a blockbuster bigger than the cosmere. Out of the many items on this list, the Magic: The Gathering movie is one that is finally gaining some momentum. With Matt Johnson slated to direct, our hopes are very high for this live-action adaptation. Writers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald are also attached to the project.

“I’m still in the middle of it; that’s very much happening,” Johnson shared in an interview with MovieWeb. “It’s the biggest project I’ve ever been a part of in my life, and I’m amazed it’s happening. As of today, as of this conversation, it’s very much full speed ahead.”

The film is still early in development with no known production schedule. Given how expansive MTG is, it’s hard to imagine exactly how the storyline will pan out. It could go a number of ways. We can’t wait to see how Johnson and Legendary will bring this fantastical role-playing game to life.

G.I. Joe X Transformers

Paramount

G.I. Joe and Transformers each boast their own separate film franchises already. Paramount Pictures and Amazon MGM Studios are bridging the gap with an untitled crossover movie set in a shared universe. Rise of the Beasts set up the possibility when, at the end, Anthony Ramos’ character was invited to join the G.I. Joe.

At CinemaCon 2026, Paramount announced that both franchises would be getting a new film. It’s unclear exactly what these new projects may be, though the Transformers one could be a follow-up to Rise of the Beasts or Transformers One. So, where does this put the crossover movie? A quote from Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. suggests it might still be a ways off.

“I still do have big plans for what that could be, but we’ll have to see,” he said. “We’ll have to see what comes of it. I am not part of the next Transformers film, but it’s still in development, and there’s still time, so you just never know.”

Writer Joe Henderson is also working with Hasbro and Skybound Entertainment on an adult animated series, Eregon Universe, which will crossover the two franchises.

Candy Land

The idea of a Candy Land movie has been floated around at Hasbro for quite some time. Adam Sandler has been attached to the project for more than a decade. Who knows what a movie about the colorful, candified racing game would be about, but we’d love to find out. The project has bounced between studios and remains in development limbo as of early 2026.

Play-Doh

A musical comedy inspired by the modeling compound we call Play-Doh sounds quite absurd. Shockingly, it’s not outside of the realm of possibility. Emily V. Gordon and Wicked director Jon M. Chu will mold the colorful clay into an animated feature film.

“The team looks forward to bringing the audience a moldable, pliable, iconically-scented story about the importance of imagination,” Chu and Gordon said. There hasn’t been much movement since Hasbro announced the Play-Doh movie a few years ago. Curious, indeed.

M.A.S.K.

DIC Enterprises

Hasbro and Paramount Pictures are planning a live-action M.A.S.K. movie based on the 1980s Kenner action figures and animated series. Paramount has made a deal with F. Gary Gray to develop the project with a contemporary spin in mind. Chris Bremner has been tapped as the writer.

M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) is a special task force led by Matt Trakker. Its goal is to take out the criminal organization known as V.E.N.O.M. (Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem). An action/adventure movie about the toy shows promise. After all, similar concepts have been very successful in the past. People love to see a team of good guys square off against a big bad in an action-packed brawl. Paramount has not confirmed any casting news or a release date as of 2026.

Furby

Hasbro

Furby, on its own, is enough to give most kids nightmares. The furry toys look a lot like plastic Gremlins. Fittingly, the Habsro team is developing a horror-comedy based on the electronic toy. The details for this one are shrouded in mystery, so it’s anyone’s guess what a horror Furby movie might actually look like.

ROM: Spaceknight

Marvel Comics

Superheroes tend to do great in the media. If Mattel can make a He-Man movie, why can’t Hasbro do one for ROM the Spaceknight? Paramount Pictures and Allspark Pictures join forces to produce a sci-fi action film based on the popular cyborg toy. Ready Player One scribe Zak Penn adapts the project.

As with many other items on this list, ROM is currently in limbo. First created as a toy, ROM went on to lead a series of Marvel comics. The character is a superhero cyborg from the fictional planet Galador. While ROM may never get a spotlight in the MCU (Marvel, not Mattel), at least he’ll get his chance to shine in the HCU.

Action Man

DIC Entertainment

Paramount and Hasbro are actively working on an Action Man spy thriller. The action-figure toy is essentially just a British version of G.I. Joe. James Bobin will direct, and Simon Farnaby will write the script. If G.I. Joe can be successfully adapted into a film franchise, we see no reason why Action Man can’t, too.

Beyblade

Nelvana Enterprises

Let it rip! Jerry Bruckheimer teams with Hasbro and Paramount Pictures to produce a live-action blockbuster based on the popular spinning disc toy Beyblade. Neil Widener and Gavin James are scripting the project. We can’t wait to see what high-speed action comes of this.

Baldur’s Gate

Larian Studios

Craig Mazin is on board to adapt the hugely popular title, Baldur’s Gate 3, into a live-action series. Mazin will create, write, executive produce, and showrun the series. HBO is developing it with Hasbro Entertainment. Set within the world of Dungeons & Dragons, Baldur’s Gate is property of Hasbro subsidiary Wizards of the Coast.

It seems the series has some pretty good legs to stand on. Instead of merely adapting the RPG game, the show will dive deeper into the universe, picking up immediately after BG3. It will introduce new characters and reintroduce old ones.

“After putting nearly 1000 hours into the incredible world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards of The Coast created,” Mazin said. “I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it. I can’t wait to help bring Baldur’s Gate and all of its incredible characters to life with as much respect and love as we can, and I’m deeply grateful to Gabe Marano and his team at Hasbro for entrusting me with this incredibly important property.”
