What Is Ultron’s Evil Plan in VISIONQUEST?

VisionQuest episodes three and four are here and boy do things end with quite the conundrum. Vision and his fellow AIs are piecing together the mystery behind the Butcherbird and why there are several people from the same company who are coming up missing. Well, almost every AI is helping him. Of course, much of the conundrum that Vision is in with the Paladin is thanks to Ultron, who is up to his own agenda. By the end of episode four, Ultron has taken over Vision’s body, killed a woman, and taken Tommy to parts unknown. But, what does Ultron want in VisionQuest? Let’s get into it.

After some extensive research, Vision, Tommy, and Lisa end up at a gala hosted by Katerina Wells. She’s the only one left of an executive team that Butcherbird has taken out one by one, and they hope to encounter her and find out why she’s doing this. Of course, Vision is still not operating at his maximum capacity, so he does not have all of his abilities. And, while Tommy is a speedster, he’s still not quite in control of his powers yet.

As expected, Butcherbird appears and things get crazy. She reveals herself to not just look like the deceased Jo Carrington, who was CEO of the company prior to her death, but to actually be Jo Carrington. She morphs into Jocasta and starts beating the crap out of Vision. Ultron says that Vision’s fear of Tommy getting hurt is holding him back, and to let him “take control.”

Vision, being the loveable dummy that he is, let’s him do this and things go awry immediately. Ultron pulls a little trick that leads to Katerina being vaporized, and Jocasta/Butcherbird is upset that he’s taken away her change for revenge. For what, we don’t know at this time. And, Ultron takes over Vision’s mindspace, locking everyone into place before walking off with Tommy.

In episode five, all the AIs are trying to figure out how much time has passed since Ultron took over Vision and what he’s up to. Vis also wants to know what Tommy’s status is, so they use the TV receivers that Ultron had in his former prison to access the outside world and see the recent past. They discover that he took Thomas to a pub for a little chat. Ultron tells Tommy that he finds the human race to be “an incurable disease” and that their fate is ultimately full eradication, but he wants to perhaps speed it up. He gets a few digs in about how Vision will not be the father that he wants him to be.

They also discover that Ultron and Paladin were pen pals, and that the Client apparently cancelled the latter’s contract. Ultron says that there are other predators coming for Vision. The AIs also see Thomas being taken, which worries Vis to the point that he’s willing to use the failsafe that allows him to regain control, but also allows Ultron to get out as well. Of course, this is exactly what Ultron wants to do after being held captive for so long.

So, what does Ultron want in WandaVision? Well, we are going to get a play on Ultron and Jocasta’ comic relationship. She was built by Ultron himself to be his bride, but she was based off of Janet van Dyne, aka the Wasp. In this series, they meet up at the same pub and she says that she wants what he took from her. After replaying gala footage, Vis sees that Ultron took a facial scan of the woman he killed for Jo, whom he flirts with profusely. She says she will tell him what her final key unlocks, and invites him to “her place” so they can make plans to murder the world. Ultron wants to elope with Jocasta to complete each other in terrible ways.

In the mindspace, Ultron arrives at the loft and tells him that Paladin has Tommy in Madripoor. He urges Vis to drop the firewall and let him find his place, otherwise he will keep Vis there and kill Tommy or turn him into an assassin. Well, it works and Ultron goes off in episode six to find Jocasta, who tries to take him out at first but isn’t strong enough. He digs deeper into Jo’s past, discovering that her groundbreaking work into AI was taken and used for evil instead of helping people, and wants to know who transferred her into AI. It is now locked away and she wants it back, which is why she’s been killing and collecting the biokeys to unleash her nanos and turn humanity into controlled puppets.

So essentially, Ultron just wants to feel a connection to someone who is just as diabolical as him. That’s not good at all. We will see more of Vision’s plan as VisionQuest continues.
